From Rehearsal #2

“There is sometimes a difference between what’s actually happened and your story you tell yourself of what happened.”

Which would you rather: Leave your “baggage” behind, or “Reconcile the past?”

If we aren’t covering up the toxic sludge with rose petals, then what are we doing?

Improv exercise question:

What’s stopping you?

Ensemble’s answers:

Fear of not living up to my potential. taking the first step. not enough money. lack of structure. anger and resentment. everything and nothing.

  1. Given that we’re living in a time of mass polarization, it’s easy to lose sight of the fact that many dualities are actually false. I think we can and must resolve our baggage and reconcile with the past. Actually, you can’t do one and not the other.

Also, I to a degree object to “leaving your baggage behind” and am more in favor of “resolving” said baggage. Abandon your baggage, particularly on the NYC metro subway and then it becomes a “suspicious package” and might blow up and kill someone. Really… you can’t ever just leave your baggage behind – that’s why it’s baggage. You’ve gotta unpack that shit, and put it away.

“The book says that we might be through with the past, but the past is not done through us!”
